The Crow and the Peacock

Posted by admin

Once, long ago, the crow and the peacock were good friends. Everyday they would go out together to work or play. Now in those days the crow and the peacock both had plain white feathers. One day, they were playing in a field or brightly colored flowers. One day they were playing in a field or brightly colored flowers.
\
?Look Mrs. Peacock,? said Mrs. Crow, ?What kind of those flowers??
\
?Which ones?? said Mrs. Peacock.
\
?The yellow ones?? Asked Mrs. Crow.
\
?They are sunflowers,? said Mrs. Peacock.
\
?And what about the purple flowers?? Asked Mrs. Crow.
\
?I think they are orchids. They are so lovely,? said Mrs. Peacock.
\
?What about the red ones?? Asked Mrs. Crow.
\
?Roses,? replied Mrs. Peacock.
\
?Ah! They smell so good. How pretty they are! Don?t you wish we wore bright colors like those flowers?? said Mrs. Crow
\
?I think that would be wonderful, Mrs. Crow. I am tired of these plain white feathers,? said Mrs. Peacock.
\
?So am I,? said Mrs. Crow.
\
Then the crow had an idea. ?Why don?t we paint ourselves? I can paint your feathers and you can paint mine!? said the crow. The peacock agreed to his idea.
\
The next day Mrs. Crow began to paint Mrs. Peacock?s feathers. She used the most beautiful colors. She painted Mrs. Peacock?s breast and head a magnificent blue. On Mrs. Peacock?s tail feathers she drew elaborate drawings. She created large rainbow spots like brilliant eyes on peacock?s tail. The crow spent a long time painting. When she was finished, Mrs. Peacock spread her tail feathers and began to strut around. She wanted to go and show everyone her beautiful feathers.
\
?I am beautiful,? said Mrs. Peacock, ?Thank you. Thank you very much.?
\
?Now it is your turn to paint me,? said the crow.
\
The crow thought that she must have beautiful feathers like her friend Mrs. Peacock, but Mrs. Peacock did not want to waste time drawing designs on Mrs. Crow.
\
?Okay! Are you ready?? The peacock asked.
\
The crow answered, ?Yes I am. Am I going to be lovely like you??
\
?Sure,? answered the crow.
\
Mrs. Peacock simply took a pot of black ink and poured it over the crow?s head. ?Oh! You shouldn?t do that to me!? Exclaimed Mrs. Crow.
\
?There you are. That should do,? said Mrs. Peacock. And the proud Mrs. Peacock strutted off to show her feathers to the world. So today the lowly crow is still black. Even though Mrs. Peacock is beautiful, it is clear that she is too proud for her own good.
