I. Show the students a potato and tell a little bit about it:
\
A. how and where it grows
\
B. different ways potatoes are cooked (fried, boiled, baked, mashed)
\
C. the vegetable that is grown the most in the world is the potato
\
D. the potato is composed of 80% water
\
II. Play Potato games:
\
A. Mr. Potato head game
\
1. Divide the class into teams.
\
2. Have each team choose one person and race against each other to assemble Mr. Potato head and all of his pieces.
\
3. Give the winning team points.
\
4. Continue playing until every member of the team has played.
\
B. Hot Potato
\
1. Have the class sit in a circle.
\
2. Say, ?Hot potato, hot potato, hot potato?? as the class passes the potato around the circle.
\
When the teacher says ?stop? the person with the potato or passing the potato is out.
\
3. The person who is the last one out will earn their team points.
\
C. Potato Sack
\
1. A member from each team has to get into the potato sack.
\
2. They must hop to one end of the room and back.
\
3. Give a point to the winner.
\
4. Have each member of the team race against the opposing team.
\
5. Give the winning team 5 points.
\
D. Potato Guess
\
1. Choose one student to leave the room.
\
2. Have the class sit in a circle.
\
3. Choose another student to sit on the potato.
\
4. Everyone must pretend that they are sitting on the potato.
\
5. The student must return to the room and guess who is sitting on the potato.
\
6. If the student guesses correctly, give their team points.
\
III. Snacks
\
A. Bring potato snacks in for the class to enjoy (potato chips, French fries, mashed potatoes)

Materials: 
2 potato bags (burlap bags), 1 potato, 2 Mr. Potatohead w/ body pieces, one or more types of potato foods
