The Fox and the Crow

Posted by admin

One summer afternoon, while the fox was wandering around the forest looking for food, he saw a crow sitting on a branch of a big tree. The crow had a big piece of cheese in his mouth. The fox, which was starving because he hadn?t eaten anything that day, had a terrible idea in his mind.
\
?I?ll get that cheese from his mouth,? the fox said to himself, ?I will make him speak and drop the cheese.?
\
The fox greeted the crow in a friendly voice, ?Hello, friend. How are you doing?? Instead of saying something back, the crow just answered by nodding his head. He did not forget the cheese in his mouth.
\
?You know what?? the fox tried again. ?We are having a party tonight at the opening ground near the edge of the forest. Would you like to join us??
\
Again, instead of saying no, the crow just shook his head and said, ?Mmmm,? with his mouth tightly shut.
\
?This doesn?t work,? said the fox to him self, ?Let me try my final trick!?
\
?Look, I would like to sing at the party, but you know my voice is horrible. You are the best crow I have ever seen,? the fox started his sweet compliment, ?I know a beautiful bird like you always has a good voice but it?s a pity you will not be there with us. I wonder if you could teach me to sing. It has been a long time since I have heard fine music. I wish my voice were as sweet as yours.?
\
With this, the silly crow was so proud that he opened his mouth to sing, forgetting what he was holding in it. He started with, ?Sha la la la la?.?, dancing and flapping his wings. He did not even notice that the cheese fell out of his mouth and dropped to the ground.
\
The fox quickly picked the cheese up in his mouth, chewed it, and swallowed it. He then quietly sneaked from where he was standing, heading to his cave. He licked his lips and murmured, ? I said that he is beautiful, but I forgot to tell them that he is not wise.?

*We should not be fooled by fine talk; be careful!
