The Shiri-Tori Game

Posted by NaokiOkura

The class will center around the "Shiri-Tori" (word grabbing) game.

I will begin the class with a brief explanation of the "hiragana" and how Japanese letters are counted through "syllables" instead of letters.

I will begin the game by selecting a random word.  For example, u-shi うし (cow).

The next student will continue the game by coming up with a word starting from shi し.  For example, shi-ma-u-ma しまうま (zebra).  Any type of words are allowed (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.)  I will stop at each word, and elaborate on it as much as possible (e.g. talk about the predators or the zebra, other animals in the sahara, etc.).

This game is suited for individuals with some basic knowledge of Japanese words.
